a big big discovery in translation!

I saw this film on tv maybe 15 ys ago in Italian my mother tongue (actor speaks Italian,not like in France with subtitles) and liked it and stored it in my memory....I bought last month the DVD of Planet of the apes, looked at Heston's filmograpy and saw this title and something cliked in my mind, but could not say what but I bought Will Penny, too ... I read the comments and the not happy end etc etc...last night I saw the english version with english subtitles then decided to run the italian version to be sure of 2 words I've missed in the kiss scene and the farewell scene and SURPRISE!!! the farewell is not so for the italians: the translators when Will repeates "it is too late, too late, I'm not a good gamble for you " make him says: we must pass winter to see if I am the men right for you, see you in spring....and when he jumps on the horse before telling ALex to give his pay to mrs Allen he says I will come back to Flatiron.....it was really a confirm of the fact I liked the film a lot 15 ys ago, it left open a possibility

TRUE!!!!
I've just finished watching the original version expecting the open finale, and was so surprised!
Also, if I remember correctly, the Italian version is slightly shorter, with some cuts, e.g. the scene in which, while churning butter and before the kiss, the woman teaches Penny the Xmas carol - maybe it was considered too hard to dub and not really important...

Btw, as usual the Italian title has little or no relation with the original one, and is quite misleading: it translates as "Forced to Kill", as if shootouts were Penny's disliked but main or habitual occupation.
