Blu ray???

Is there a plan to re-release this film in BR some upcoming year???

reply

Blu-Ray is not very big in Russia unfortunately. Very few soviet classics has been released and War and Peace is not considered a classic in Russia (because it's crap).
It would require extensive and expensive restoration for Blu-Ray, but I heard there was some sort of dispute over the rights for the movie and it's negatives. That's why even DVD is sourced from *beep* copy.

reply

Wait, what? It's crap? I merely ask for clarification whether this is your opinion of the movie or the Russians' opinion, and what the basis is? Artistic crap or technical crap?

Think cynical thoughts.

reply

Russians' opinion. Artistic crap. Technically it's decent (though I can't stand vocals being added in post-production, they did that in every movie. You foreign guys probably wouldn't care)

Your nikname says that you are a 13 year old moron. Russians respect this movie, go *beep* yourself you stupid *beep*

I hope soon, this film screams for BluRay quality!

and arthouse. A film is a goddam film."

All "Disks" are now obsolete...

Even "Blu-Ray" can only hold a limited amount of information. In the future all films will be downloaded on a 'pay to view' system and then you have the possibility of watching a 4K version (3 x "Blu-Ray" quality) ! without any interference from manufacturers or distributors.

reply

The concept of ownership is not obsolete. Many of us do not want "pay to view" our favorite films every time we want to see them, we want to own them. Libraries are not obsolete, possession is not obsolete. I hope you are wrong, and that nobody's access to every work of art vanishes in the future behind a paywall.

Thrown away.

Blu-Ray bit rates are always higher than streaming.

Criterion released a blu-ray earlier this year. It is gorgeous!
