Similar movies

I saw this recently, and it was only the second Bergman movie I've seen, after The Seventh Seal. I really enjoyed this for its dream-like, bizarre quality. Can anyone recommend some similar movies?

If you're after more Bergman films, I'd suggest.

Persona.
Wild Strawberries.
Face to Face.
The Virgin Spring.
The Silence.
Shame.
The Magician.

As far as similar films, I'd suggest.

Vampyr.
The Trial (1962).
Repulsion.
The Phantom Carriage.
Picnic At Hanging Rock.
After Hours.
Shutter Island.
The Shining.

You might also want to check out some David Lynch films like Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks: FWWM or Lost Highway.

Wow, thanks a lot! The only one of these I've seen is The Shining, which I loved, and I was about to watch Eraserhead this week anyway. I'll definitely check these out.

I think this movie has the deliberate purpose of making you experience a nightmare. In that sense I would suggest work from Italian cult directors Dario Argento and Lucio Fulci. Though far more gruesome, the foundations are similar. Typically weird and sometimes illogical storylines, with beautiful imagery.

Suspiria
Inferno
Phenomena
City of the Living Dead
The Beyond
House by the Cemetery

"What If" is a game for scholars.
Timothy Dalton, The Lion in Winter (1968)

Lost Highway. That film is very reminiscent of the scenes at the castle and Baron von Merkens reminds me of the Mystery Man.
