Esso fuel plug????

Hi.

Watching this film on Film 4 [UK], i caught Alun saying, "Don't worry, i've got a Tiger in my tank" some 3/4 way through.

Now, a main Esso fuel catchphrase used to be, "Put a Tiger in your tank.", in the 70's and 80's anyways.

Was this a plug for Esso fuel in the film, or simply a coincidence?

I don't actually know if Esso were using that main catchphrase of theirs back in 67/68 but if they were, i do wonder if Anderson received some funding for the film by including a plug.

Intreguing, what!

According to the book "The Complete Thunderbirds" (C. Bentley, Carlton, 2000), the phrase "Put a Tiger..." was used by Esso around the time the movie was initially released; the Tiger phrase was also supposedly used as a reference to the type of aircraft that was used in the film - a Tiger Moth (although the type of aircraft is never specifically mentioned in full anywhere in the film).

I just googled the phrase and came across this website (http://www.exxonmobil.com/Corporate/history/about_who_history_alt.aspx ); the phrase itself was used as early as 1959.

Here in the U.S. Exxon gas stations used that slogan back in 66, they even used a 66 Pontiac GTO on the TV ad.
