I just watched the whole thing on TCM.......got a phone call and missed the ending.......please let me know if Elke and Gary escaped from the desert somehow? Maybe in the helicopter? Please help me on this one.....

Well, escaped would be the wrong way to explain it:

The remaining cast all end up together in the desert as the truck blows up. Gary is laughing though...

Another somewhat ironic and somewhat dark Euro ending!

Presumably they were all arrested and went to prison for awhile.
