I'm glad to hear that this film is going to be released in the UK - any chance of a Region 4 release for Australia, I wonder?

it's so odd an anime title getting a release in the UK before the US, admittedly it's been out in france for a while but it's top news. i only heard about the film about 6 months ago now i can buy it in the shops!

I bought it on Monday. Sadly no extras to speak of - but worth buying for the film alone (as is always the case with this kind of thing).

The major perk, of course, is the English subtitles. For that reason alone, I bought the UK DVD. Oh, and it happens to be a lot cheaper than the Japanese release.

Anyway, just finished watching Horus for the first time. I'm speechless. This really is the movie that invented anime. It's a revolutionary movie in the fullest sense, and it needs a proper DVD release that fully gives it justice. Given its history, its influence, and the brilliant talent of its creators - including a young Takahata and Miyazaki who are geniuses right out of the box - a bare bones DVD is just an insult. If Criterion was ever needed, it's for Horus.

Although the animation isn't as free flowing as the later Ghibli works, this is an excellent film/story with many ideas that show up in the later works.
