The scene with Janice Rule needed to be trimmed or cut!

That second to last scene went on forever and revealed little importance ...... it needed to be removed or trimmed down to 3 minutes. It went on FOREVER and really dragged the movie down........
Other than that - I LOVE this movie dearly . l

Good point.

Tough call - the whole movie had a leisurely, dream-like feel to it

But I'd have to agree too - I thought his comeuppance was better portrayed at the public swimming pool

Funnily enough, I read it was Lancaster who wanted Janice Rule because she had LESS screen presence than Barbara Loden; in trying to avoid being upstaged, he might've made the scene weaker

Maybe it dragged the movie down because this particular scene was directed by Sydney Pollack, not Frank Perry. It is noticeably more 'classically shot' than the rest of the film.

I disagree quite strongly - I honestly think it's one of the highlights of this fabulous film, and that Rule's performance is superb.

Actually this wasn't even in the original filming by Frank Perry in 1966. Barbara Loden was in the original scene, but Sam Speigel and Burt Lancaster decided to reshoot this and other scenes. The original crew had nothing to do with it.

Interesting you should mention that because the filming began in 1966, but then it was put on hold an Burt had this scene reshot in '68 with Rule as a replacement. But yes, it's one of my favorite films. By the way Marge Champion just died age 101: The model for Snow White and actress in many films.
