Sara's Family (SPOILERS)

Does anyone think it's odd that Sara's family is not a part of her life anymore? They obviously cared about her a great deal to take her all over the country to try to find a cure for her illness. Alonzo says he writes to them, so obviously she has no real communication with them, and when Thanksgiving came, they were nowhere to be seen. You would think that they would at least want to spend time with her during her final months/years while they can. At the least even the holidays. I think this is an interesting point to ponder.

I thought that it was mentioned in the conversation with Alonzo that she walked away from her family and his communication with them was the compromise.

Well, maybe one could assume that, but it is certainly not explicitly stated. Alonzo said that her family took her all over the country to find a cure to "the point of it being cruel." I believe his next line was "Sara was the one who put an end to it. She moved here and..." He said he write letters to them, lies a little, gives them some hope, etc. But I don't feel like the movie ever suggested that Sara was at odds with her family and that she compromised by keeping in touch through Alonzo. It's a nice possibility, but I still wonder about that whole aspect of the story.
