love it

I love this movie. I think it is a marvelous portrayal of a dysfunctional family that is self-destructing but still has a lot of positive things going on in it. F. Gilroy had a really profound understanding of the complex dynamics that were going on among the three of them.
I saw it when it came out in theaters and have only seen it a couple of times since then, but always am struck by how wonderful it is; the screenplay, the acting, the music, it all seems terrific to me.
Today I was especially impressed by how handsome Martin Sheen was at that age, before his life got so consumed with substance abuse. I'm glad he turned things around after his heart attack in the Philippines making Apocalypse Now.
