Mom's Getaway (POSSIBLE SPOILER)

Where is the location of the hotel and beach where Mrs. Clary runs away to on that Sunday morning? I'm assuming it's somewhere along the Jersey shore but not being from that area I beg my fellow IMDBers to enlighten me. Is the hotel still in existence, or when was it torn down?

reply

Yes, it's on the Jersey Shore - There was an interesting 'Making of...' short following the broadcast of the picture on TCM.

The town is Spring Lake, NJ. The hotel was torn down in the 1970's.

I liked it being on the sea. Many wives marry just to get married and use their families to survive bad marriages. I think this is what she did.

Thanks, for the info, folks. After some more research I determined that it was the New Monmouth Hotel, which opened in 1904, shut down in 1974, and was demolished the following year. Too bad. Would you kill a dinosaur, or try to help it live?

reply

Yes, the Monmouth was torn down long ago, but the beach that Pat walks on is Belmar, and the restaurant she lunches at is THE BELMAR FISHING CLUB which is right on the beach, next to the inlet. Had a few beers there this summer, and the view out the windows is exactly the same.
