I'm Burlington Bertie I rise at 10:30

Burlingtion Bertie from bow. Only Julie Andrews could deliver songs with so much bravado from this spectacular musical. Even the song Star! "If the lady is naughty but proper, if she rides around in a brand new foreign car, chances are the lady is a Star!" Julie is the true Star! in this picture. No doubt about it, she carried this movie; she must've burned herself out after this extravaganza. It's like watching her perform a live production with the elaborate costume changes, the stage production and the comedy. Julie gives 100% and there is no turning back to Mary Poppins.
Is it long? You bet your bottom dollar it is. Is it worth the time to watch? Absolutely just to hear her vocal range and watch her saunter around like only a true Star! knows how to.
If this musical had been released today, I bet it would have done much better in 2004, than it did back in 1968.

Yes I agree. Star! was savaged by critics in '68/9, along with Darling Lili a year later. Star! is a film of great acting depth. Julie Andrews is phenomenal. It's interesting to see that Star! is ranked at #590 or so in Amazon's DVD sales. I'm sure the "failure" Fox thought it had, is in fact, more successful than some of its fellow-failure musicals. STAR! certainly shows Julie Andrews' depth and focus. Get the DVD - it's brilliant!

I disagree. I love the cat suit that starts out looking like a long dress. I subtley reminds one of the stars in the sky, a galaxy if you will.

I love this movie too! Julie's so fantastic in it, that you truly forget it's her. You really believe you are looking at Gertrude Lawrence. The singing was fantastic too, and I think "Burlington Bertie" is so unusual, but so interesting to watch. All the numbers in "Star!" are my favorite, except "Limehouse Blues". I've never been able to understand that part. Besides that, it is one of the best movies in the world!

It grows on you the more you watch it... I used to dislike it, but changed my mind. If I knew more about musical entertainment history (perhaps) maybe I could explain more about this type of song...(but I can't )
