Bacon and Egg Breakfast Scene

I was very little when I first saw this movie, I think in full (and then I saw only a bit of it many years later). For some reason, I remember the scene wherein Mia Farrow brings Liz a tray of breakfast, and Liz digs right in as if she hadn't eaten for a week. The coffee looked piping hot, and she devoured the eggs and sausage, and whatever else was on the tray, in about two minutes. I couldn't believe how fast she was downing the breakfast, and I remember sort of wanting to have some breakfast myself as I was watching her! Anyway, she seemed to say nothing to Mia's character...she just rather ungratefully inhaled her breakfast, and I thought it was a sort of freakishly humorous scene. I didn't understand the film entirely when I saw it, (again, being only five). Therefore, I want to see it again.

RIP, dear Elizabeth.

I just caught it very early this morning. I think there's also a halved grapefruit on the tray. Yeah, she does wolf that food down! I kept waiting for her to ask Mia's character why she isn't eating anything but she just kept poking in bite after bite.

She finally does say something like, "That was a most delicious breakfast, maybe the most delicious I've ever had." But she lets out a burp in the midst of speaking.

You got your pint, you got your pig snacks, what more do you want?

elizabeth taylor was the best! i remember hearing that she had burnt her handing grabbing at bacon that was still in the pan. the belch at the end of the meal was the cherry on top of the sundae.

"Who put the pineapple juice in my pineapple juice?"

It's kind of in conflict with Ms. Taylor's physical appearance...(she looks, shall we say, "well-nourished" at this point in her life)...but her character is supposed to be a very down-and-out street hooker, who sits on park benches at night, waiting for the scummy dregs of male society to pick her up for quickies.

She's supposed to be desperate, and starving to death.

There's no indication that her circumstances are such that she is starving. She's a prostitute. Probably drinks, and food choices not the healthiest. But she does have a place to live, she's not homeless. In any case, her size is addressed a number of times in the movie, once by Taylor herself. (And very amusingly by Robert Mitchum!)

then why was she so hungry?

I agree this scene is quite humorous and evocative. It always makes me hungry, too!

While watching this scene I kept thinking, "I wonder if this was the beginning of the end, she isn't THAT fat yet, but if she keeps eating like that...."

This scene was so unbelievably shocking to me. Liz Taylor burping! It was shocking!!! But so good. The acting is a Master Class. Elizabeth Taylor was, quite simply, the greatest film actress.
