Long in the Tooth?

Nina is only about 17 or 18, she is also light, giddy and easily swept up in whimsey. Whomever thought that Vanessa Redgrave would make a good Nina??!! She is an amazing actress but even at 30 (which is how old she was when she made this film) she was too tall and robust for this role.

You need an actress who is a silk scarf caught up on puffs of wind, Redgrave is like a solid, well anchored birch.

Not a good fit.

Darling, I am trouble of the most spectacular kind!

reply

She's still the best performer in this film. She fairly glows.

She's brilliant. James Mason is better, IMO, but I adore him so and am ridiculously biased.

reply

Definitely!!!
Everyone else overacts (James Mason, for example) or is badly miscast (Simone Signoret)!!!
