The most horrifying thing - poor Roe inadvertently *spoilers*

Opened the door to the whole mess just being kind to the Castevets and bringing Guy over for dinner that night. If they'd begged off like he'd wanted, if she'd fibbed and said she was sick or something, she'd have been spared.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions and all that.

She could have said no to that first dinner, but if the coven/Satan really wanted her they would've found a way - They still could've spoken with Guy at some point & persuaded him to drug her - When I think about it, the ritual could be dismissed ever more so as a dream

In the novel we learn that Satan CHOSE Rosemary. In some way, the coven made the couple move there to impregnate her with Satan's child.

Yes...but there's not much of a way around it, in a practical sense.

It's really important to be on good terms with your neighbors, maybe especially in an apartment building. You're going to lock yourself out some day, and need a place to hang out while waiting for a locksmith. You don't want them calling the landlord if you give a loud-ish party once a year. You want them to care if they notice someone odd hanging around your mailbox...it's just common sense to be gracious to your neighbors, to any reasonable extent.

If they invite you to dinner at their place, you just go. Even if you suspect they're not very interesting.
