Am I

Am I the only one who did not see this film in school? I saw it outside the classroom for the first time.

No, my mom is a big fan of this movie and she introduced it to me first, later when my High School class studied Romeo and Juliet I was pleasantly suprised when my teacher played this movie for us.

I first saw it WHILE I was in school, but I didn't see it IN school because they didn't show it in my school. Although one of the finest film adaptations of Shakespeare's plays, this film is not necessarily a good film to exhibit in a school, nor is it necessarily the best choice of all film adaptations of Shakespeare's plays, to exhibit to young children. There are plenty of good adaptations out there that more faithfully represent Shakespeare and are generally more appropriate for exhibition as education, than entertainment. Many school boards, trustees, teachers, and even parents, know this. Many schools don't show Baz Luhrmann's version, either, and for pretty much exactly the same reasons.

I first saw it in 9th grade after we read the play. I love the play and this version, bought it on DVD.

I saw it while in 9th grade. The school required the parents to sign permission slips or else you couldn't see it. Then they bussed us to a theater. Of course all the girls fell in love with Romeo and being we were in the time that the only breasts the boys had seen up to that time were from National Geographic, the boys were thrilled to see Juliet.

I saw it in ninth grade in the classroom in 1979 after we studied the play. We didn't need permission in advance to see it but I do remember my teacher warning us to behave like mature young adults during the brief nude scenes.
