WHY WON'T TCM AIR THIS MOVIE?

Whenever TCM airs a version of ROMEO AND JULIET, its always that inferior Thalberg 1937 production with stage-bound sets and actors who are far too old for their roles.
I can't believe it's the nude scenes preventing the showing of this movie on TV; TCM is far too progressive for that kind of thinking.
And it could be shown at an hour when kids are in bed.

Maybe TCM is having trouble obtaining the rights to this film.

Maybe it's not in the Turner Library. Of course, TCM has made deals with other studios to broadcast their films. Maybe TCM hasn't made a deal to acquire broadcasting rights for this movie.

I always check the year the movie was made before I commit to watch it. As far as I'm concerned, this is the only R&J movie ever made.

My first viewing of this movie was on TCM, so I know they used to show it. That was about 10 years ago. Perhaps they lost the rights to some other channel like FXM.

reply

Maybe they're focusing on older movies than this.

Considering the movie is almost 53 years old, that is a little silly. Ironically quoting Olivia in a YouTube video, she stated during filming, Franco stated he wanted to create a masterpiece that would be enjoyed 50 years from now, he got his wish.
