When is the DVD version going to be available?

When is Warner Bros. planning on releasing the DVD version of this remarkable film? I saw it back in 1968 and it was very controversial for it's time. The film has an understated elegance with the New England locations and Joanne Woodward's very human portrait of a woman coming into her own. I think this film is far too important to not be available on DVD.

WB said earlier this year (in a chat hosted by Home Theater Forum) that the film would be out on DVD somewhere in the 2006-07 timeframe.

Thank you! I thought I was the only one waiting for this film. My VHS copy is all but worn out!

reply

Hey there, any updates on this coming out on dvd? i've never seen it before and really want to!

reply

I haven't seen anything. I've been holding my breath for years. It might be worth it if you still have a VCR to pick up a used copy of the VHS on eBay. In 1991 I paid $60 for my VHS version without batting an eyelash and I've never regretted it.

It's Being released on DVD in less than 2 weeks on the 17th but the down side is some of the cotroversial scenes are going to be edited so it'll be PG rated instead of how it's intended to be seen it's original R rated form but at least we're finally getting it but it would annoy Paul to no end if he were still alive and warner tried to release it the way they are instead of in it's original artistic form and unfortunately when the entertainment shows mention the new dvd releases that week it'll get ignored great art forgotten

WHAT???? Where did you read that it's edited? It's pretty tame next to today's standards anyway. This is very upsetting.

reply

I just checked the Warner site and it doesn't mention anything about it be edited?

reply

yeah that's true but you have to figure even if it's not listed as such that it will be because why else would the rating be knocked down two pegs by the MPAA ratings board sure the scenes considered graphic then are tame now but still it should have been nocked down to pg-13 not straight PG

Alot of films ratings change from how the MPAA rates films today. This film would be a PG rating by todays standards. I have 10 films that were rated R but are now listed as PG and they aren't edited either.

Just watched this and I don't think anything was missing. I'm actually surprised that as a 12 year-old in 1968 I was allowed in to see this film without being accompanied by an adult. But most of it went over my head anyway! (Well, I had paid my seventy-five cents for BONNIE AND CLYDE with no questions asked...)

You found this at Big Lots? Was it widescreen or fullscreen, and did it have any bonus features like a trailer?
