This movie made me cry

Hi, I bought the DVD recently and watched it today. I must say that although I didn't expect to be so moved by a drama, there were some parts that literally brought me to tears. I think that this film crawls way deep under my skin because of Rachel's struggles. She always seems so cheerful and simple on the outside, but inside, she's reliving her most precious childhood memories, surfacing emotions, and sincerely trying to make sense of her life. I feel that this resonates with me to some extent. I even had similar experiences growing up with a dad who was a very devout Christian and going to visit his church sometimes. (I'm a Roman Catholic, so I wasn't used to his Pentecostal type church). There is also a great deal of shame around her innermost sexual feelings, and I find her so repressed. In the end, her decision to move fits perfectly with how she deals with her life, and when I finished the film, I felt as if someone finally understood a lot of what I have gone through. I also thought this film kind of exists on the same line as "Eliza's Horoscope" (although that movie is definitely weirder than this one).

you put that perfectly

"why are you married to him then if you can't work with him how do you live with him?"

Wow, an "Eliza's Horoscope" on the "Rachel, Rachel" board! You must have been scouring the buck bin at Wal-Mart. I can't say I really "got" "Eliza's Horoscope," even though I really tried, but I found "Rachel" profoundly moving, even though the story-telling was quite confusing at times. This, I'm sure, is intentional to mirror Rachel's thoughts.

Even though she was a virgin until she was in her mid-30s, isn't there a suggestion here that she was sexually abused – or abused non-sexually? During the Pentecostal service, she has a flashback where I got that vibe.

I also wondered that-the images were so unclear though.

the book on witch the film is based was written that way on purpose

"why are you married to him then if you can't work with him how do you live with him?"
