Happy 41st anniversary

I know i'm still about 4 months early but I wanted to be the first to call attention to this great film on it's 41st anniversary if it were ever remade today it wouldn't hold up as well as the original does and the acting would be no where near as good the closet young actress that could play Rachel almost as well as Joanne did I'd think would be Kate Winslet

I'm sure this movie would never be remade but if it was I'd feel like I was stabbed in the heart. LOL Nobody could play that part like Joanne Woodward. She has a realness about her acting that isn't seen today. Just my opinion.

Couldn't agree with you more but if hollywood is attempting to re-do other films involving either her or Paul this can't be far behind though it scares me to think they'd ever attempt to remake this classic no current actress has the screen prescence simple beauty strength and innocence combined that Joanne does which would make the Charecter seem flat and one dementional but it would also be hard to find a child actress that could play young Rachel as Beautifully as her & Paul's daughter Nell did

today August 26th marks the 41st anniversary of the theatrical release of this gem of a film that should receive more respect than it does

I wouldn't worry about studios wanting to remake this film. They didn't want to make it in the first place. Joanne had purchase the rights while the book "A Jest Of God" was still in gallies so she could play the role. Nobody would make the film with her in the lead which is why she and Paul formed their own production company. Then, they couldn't find anybody to dierect it which is the reason Paul did so. Hollywood and the media weren't sure that this wasn't going to be a huge fiasco. Turns out he was a very good director. Who knew?

times are different now then they were in 1966/1967 when the book was published made into the film. if a modern actress like Amy Adams/Elisha Cuthfort wanted to play the role studios would bend over backwards to make it happen. patriculary with Ms Adams as she's been nominated for an oscar twice and is always up for a challenging part. it's hard to believe the studios didn't want Joanne for this part it's one of her Iconic roles and yeah Paul turned out a fabulous director and she always said he was her favorite director to work with because who knows you better than the person you live with.

After 4 decades, this film feels very fresh. The theme of 'finding one's self' is timeless. Woodward's performance is pristine and Newman's direction is excellent. It's just a wonderful little film. IMO, this film will always be relevant & loved.
