Am I the only one who's noticed the resemblence between Dave and Neil Young?

He has left the band because he thinks they're too into plastic games and making $. Everything about his appearance and his dedication to music for its own sake and an end to phony games and put-ons speaks very strongly of Neil Young at about that time. Young's on-again, off-again feud with Stephen Stills started over very similar issues in Buffalo Springfield.

Stockwell is wearing quasi-Native American attire, has his dark hair very neatly combed, and nails Nicholson with an intensely focused gaze. Could it have been Stockwell's own idea to play Dave as Neil? The two were good friends, and Dean later acted in one of Neil's pictures, "Human Highway".

Could very well be. Neil Young and Dean Stockwell were (and may very well still be) good friends in the 60's. They hung out together in Topanga Canyon after Neil left the Springfield in 1968. Dean may have been channeling Neil in his portrayl of "Dave" in this film. Furthermore, Neil Young's classic 1970 album, "After the Gold Rush" was taken from an idea by Dean Stockwell and as I understand it, a film was being planned based on the songs from the album - someting to do do with a post-apocalyptic society and waiting for a big wave or something like that. So, yeah, I would agree that there is a connection between the two.

Yeah, I agree that he is very Young-esque. He also does a bit like Neil Young in the film, also.

I've read this before. I think Dave is totally based on Neil Young and the split in the Buffalo Springfield. CSNY hadn't happened yet, so they would have had to take the troubles with the Buffalo Springfield as a model. And judging by what everyone else is saying, Neil and Dean were mighty tight. Don't you wish you could have gone to that party??
