DVD

I realize this is something of a forgotten film, but you would think someone would release it eventually. Any word? I can't even find it on VHS.

Turner Classic Movies shows "The Power" in letterbox. I made a VHS copy a couple of years ago, if you're interested, I can transfer it to DVD. However, if you get TCM, you'd be better off copying it yourself.

Hi, I would be interested in getting a copy of "The Power" if you have it. It's a real shame that nobody has thought to release it for commercial use. It's one of my favorites of all time. I've loved it since I was a teenager in the 70's.

reply

I loved this movie too. At the time I thought George Hamilton was handsome! Ha!
I wish SciFi would buy the rights to it. It would be alot better than half the stuff they run over and over and.........

reply

Well, you really can't beat old George in his younger days. He was one hot guy. lol. Sci-fi really should buy the rights to that one. I haven't seen it for years. I wish somebody would release it on VHS or DVD.

The film was released on Laser Disc in a double feature (along with "Atlantis:The Lost Continent") about 7 or 8 years ago. The transfer is very good and the film was letterboxed.

Michaelnlori was right, only released on laserdisc as a double feature with the stinker Atlantis (Please, don't anyone defend Atlantis it's just not worth it). Even if Turner showed it the cleanest version would still be laser. It is OAR 2.35:1 and broadcast just cannot produce a clear version. Trust me, I have "The Wonderful World of the Brother's Grim on laser and recorded it from TCM. While TCM's version was cleaned up to mask the Cinerama projector splits (or maybe the murky broadcast hid the seams), the laser is still the cleanest of the two. Zooming in proves the point, one click and it's pixelized already.
If the Power is ever released on DVD I hope they treat it better than "Colossus: The Forbin Project". Another 2.25:1 released pan and scan. P.S. relesed on LD OAR.
