Who attacked Michael Rennie?

Can anybody answer this: there is one scene near the end of the film where Michael Rennie gets out of his car and is attacked by "The Power" - he twists and contorts. Now, is Rennie doing this to himself to confuse Hamilton and Pleshette, or is he being attacked by Hamilton..?

Thanks.

Confusing Hamilton and Pleshette, as it set them up for a possibly fatal rescue attempt, and, of
course, throwing suspicion on someone else, especially as Rennie protests later that he wants to
live.

SPOILERS follow. Remember that George Hamilton also has the "power," though he doesn't yet realize it. Michael Rennie knows this, however, and when George Hamilton closes in on him in that garage, Rennie feels Hamilton's "power" threatening him.
