Sleek

I happen to like this pix a lot;

-many reasons : one of which is the stellar cast; you've got a lot of vets & pros comprised in one film !

-there is a somber & serious tone throughout,suspense builds and though the end is not as satisfying as it could be,nonetheless,we see a resolution of sorts and it is a bit surreal; after all,we are dealing with a different set of circumstances here : one of a shadow world of secrets and the realm of uncertain science which borders on the far reaches of the frontier of the mind that is unsettling to say the least.

The music is odd but it is still one of the foremost composers of his era,Miklos Rosza,an Oscar Winner from the Ben-Hur days of the late 50's which literally saved MGM studios !

Good post. I made like points elsewhere, including how well Hamilton
handles himself with a subtle performance.

Hamilton is dead-on as the star and carries the film quite well.

Through the years,alas,George has not been treated seriously and this flic serves as a corrective !

...some of it has been Mr.Ham's fault : silly commercials,the Gay Blade and Love at First Bite.However,what it shows though that George is capable of the light & zany touch.

But early on,Mr.Hamilton had done well dramatically w\2 Weeks in Another Town,Your Cheating Heart and Home from the Hill.

What we have here are 2 Hamiltons !-underappreciated & under-rated !

Hamilton is really quite good in the part he plays;

though young he exudes maturity and possesses sound judgment.

This has to be one of G.H.'s finest roles.

I saw this film in the theatre when I was a little kid, and it scared me silly. I saw it again recently, and still enjoy it very much.

The score is odd, but it really sticks in a person's mind.

I firmly believe this film was out of synch in '68;

it is a rather sophisticated murder mystery,suspense and sci-fi flic all rolled into one !

That is a major reason Mr.Man\Planet why you still enjoy this pic because it is so futuristic and well-crafted by Mr.George Pal.

Moreover,even the "weird" music is timeless as it doesn't fit any particular era.

Finally,this movie,as far as I am concerned,grows in stature as time elapses.

Just thinking about this movie today.
The scene with the guy murdered by centrifuge with his eyeballs popped out really creeped me out when I was a kid.
I will have to watch it again, I recorded it years ago.
The music also stuck in my head!

Keith Moon was the greatest 'Keith Moon Style' drummer ever!!

reply

The eyes bugging out for a kid viewing it has to be a memory of sorts !

The music is superb and is one of the best items in the movie.
