NFL today...yesterday

Seeing this movie in 2007, the first thing that is noticable is how money has changed the game since 1968. The fines were of small amounts, the players did not make 1/10th the amount that they do today. Because these guys sacrificed their bodies for the game for such a small amount it made them seem more real than some of the prima donnas that play today. Could you picture one of these guys quitting the game because he made enough money so could smoke weed for the rest of his life? They just seemed to love playing football, I wonder how much the huge influx of money to the NFL has changed that love of the game today?

Very good movie, interesting directoral style. A great choice to keep the REAL football players involved throughout the film.

Absolutely. Back in those days players had to have off season jobs too to support their families in the off season and training camp was for getting in shape to play. Did you notice some of the knee surgery scars? Arthroscopic? What’s that?

2013-14 NFL: Physical giants, mental and moral midgets.

Just as they were in 1963. That was the year Alex Karras and Hall of Famer Paul Hornung were suspended for the season for gambling on games. Players also gobbled greenies like they were M&Ms. If you think they were any better people than they are today, you're sadly mistaken. You obviously never heard any of Art Donovan's interviews.

This will be the high point of my day; it's all downhill from here.
