Where's Mel Farr?

Mel Farr, former All-American RB from UCLA, was the Lions' first-round draft pick in '68, the same year that Lem Barney and Mike Weger were drafted. Although he's mentioned in the scene where the coaches have a pretraining camp meeting, Farr doesn't appear the movie. I wonder why?
