Don´t forget the Norwegians made their own versions beginning already the year after, and little more than a decade later, the Swedes started the Jönssonligan version. 17 Danish Olsen-banden movies, 14 of the Norwegian ones and three (?) Olsenbanden Junior ones, and eight Swedish Jönssonligan and four Lilla Jönssonligan ones so far. The fourth one just running in the theaters here right now... That´s one h*** of a legacy from Erik Balling and Henning Bahs... :o)

The first couple of The Olsen Gang movies are very different from the rest of them, the first ones have this old humor, but that's because they ARE old n stuff.
The best rated and also my favor Olsen gang movie, is number 8 (Olsen Banden ser rødt - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075002/), where the gang have to break through walls inside the Royal Danish Theatre to get a briefcase, the problem is that you can't break down a wall without it making a sound everybody inside the theatre will be able to hear, and to make it just a little bit harder, the theatre is full of people, so the gang have to break down the walls at the exact right moments while the orchestra is playing Elverhøj Overture. It's about 9 minutes of total joyness, you don't even have to have a version speaking a language that you understand, cause there are about six four lines in those 9 mins, but of course you'll have to at least have subtitles on the rest of the movie, otherwise you won't really get much outta it.

anyway, if you want to check out just one The Olsen Gang movie, then I suggest either number 8 or number 5 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070474/ - there is a link to number 8 in the text).
A good thing about these movies is, that you don't have to see the previews ones to understand what it's all about (except number 13, you have to see number 12 before watching number 13, but that's because number 12 is kinda part 1-2 and then number 13 is part 2-2)

I know the links in the text is only to the IMDb sites, and that it's to the danish version, I've only seen a half Swedish version of one of them, but it was exactly as the danish version, so I guess that it doesn't matter if you see the danish, swedish or norwegian version.

The Germans liked them very much. In the former DDR people morned the day Ove Sprogøe died. The Olden-banden films were some of very few to get through the censurship in DDR.

Good to see them getting recognition in other countries, the film series pretty much went from strength to strength with each new entry, vastly superior to the Norwegian and especially Swedish versions. They're okay for what they are, every country here has its own humour/culture/traditions, but the originals will always remain the best.

In Norway they also have a restaurant-franchise based on Olsen-banden called Egon's, and they even have one of the restaurants placed outside Norway, to be more exact it's placed in Alanya, Turkey.
