Favorite Musical Number?

Of course, I love them all, but my favorite has to be "Who Will Buy?" Out of curiosity, what are other people's favorite songs from this movie? You don't have to pick just one!

Agree with you on that one! But, the reason "Who Will Buy?" is my favorite is because it starts out with just Oliver singing, and then everybody starts singing at different times. However, I guess the same thing could be said about "Consider Yourself", because it does that, too. And whoever the girl was that dubbed Mark Lester's singing voice was amazing.

-It's never a mistake to care for someone. That's always a good thing!

I love them all, but it is a two way toss up between Who Will Buy? and Consider Yourself. I love the melody of Who Will Buy? and I love the energy of Consider Yourself.

"Consider yourself"...3 weeks to shoot and hundreds of people, it must have been a nightmare to choreograph and direct. Especially with Mark Lester's 3 left feet. It was funny to read the trivia about how Jack Wild had to drag him all thru that number!
Also like "Be Back Soon", and "Who Will Buy" because it is a beautiful song.

it's who will buy for me, it's a lavish production number and the if you listen to the line 'there'll never be a day so sunny, it could not happen twice' on a hot day it can't help but make you feel good, that's what does it for me

oom pa pa. just infectous (sp) starts out light and brings the whole tavern into it.

Beside that Shani is wonderful in the number.

Dorothy stop that, Mr. Ha Ha`s lookin at you!!

As Long As He Needs Me. I love it, although I'm currently rehearsing to play Bill Sykes! I prefer Kerry Ellis and Jodie Prenger's versions to Shani Wallis' though.

Couldn't agree more with you. 'Oom pa pa' is an infectious song. It always puts me in a happy mood, and yes, Shani does a FANTASTIC job as Nancy. You really do feel for her

As per my review, my top five songs are, in no particular order, 'Food Glorious Food,' 'Oliver!,' 'Consider Yourself (which I thought was "come city yourself" when I first saw this film at the age of 10),' 'You've Got To Pick a Pocket or Two' and 'I'd Do Anything,' all of which are performed during Act One and are the most memorable.

I agree with you on both counts.

i listen to 'consider yourself', 'anything', 'be back soon', 'food glorious food', and 'pick a pocket or two' the most ... naturally, they are my favourites! and i like the overtune hahahaha it's nice!!

i also like 'who will buy'.

I don't really enjoy 'where is love' though as i think it wasn't sang well. The girl who dubbed mark lester 's voice is capable of singing well (as shown in 'anything') but she sounded quite bad here in my humble opinion.

Who Will Buy? Consider Yourself are my favorites!

I also LOVE the Reprise of Reviewing The Situation even better than the first version!

All the songs are fantastic but my top 5 are

5. Its a fine life - brilliantly performed
4. Torn between "be back soon" and "reviewing the situation" both great tracks.
3. I'd do anything - Gr8 song and when fagin comes dancing in with an umbrella is one of the funniest moments in the whole film.
2. Omm Pah pah - Nancy is my fave character and this is such a gr8 song
1. Consider yourself - Just infectious, such a gr8 song and one I always remember loving.

My least faves are "where is love" and im not really into "who will buy" thouI appriciate how much work it must of taken.

My no. 1 pick has to be I'll Do Anything. What! Fisticuffs?
After reading the responses to this topic, I watched Who Will Buy and I agree. It's just great. Actually, they're all good.

Who will Buy was my hands down favourite. Pick a Pocket or two, second, and "I'm reviewing the situation" third.

reply

It's easier for me to say which ones are not my favourites, because i absolutley adore every song in this film:
I didn't like consider yourself, as long as he needs me, and where is love.

reply

My favorites are "You have got to pick a pocket or two" and "Who will buy". Although almost all of the songs were beautiful.

I think As Long As He Needs Me is the worst, especially re-watching the film as an adult. It's just sad to see her being taken advantage of and abused like that. I remember watching the film as a child, and to see it again and realize what it all means it's really an eye-opener. (Kind of like re-watching Sound of Music and realizing how degrading 16 Going On 17 is toward women as well.)
