tonight is my high school's last showing of The Odd Couple (female version). i honestly cant say which is better because i have never seen the original [or the movie], but after being Jesus [one of the spanish brothers who Olive and Florence invite over for the date] i started wondering, would they ever adapt the female version for the screen?

and if you've ever seen the female version, what did you think?

I was Manolo in the female version at my school. Our accents were "Castillian" spanish so my line ended up being "That is a bery burnt bird". Everyone loved it.

I just saw my niece perform in it at her high school tonight (she was Vera). I didn't care for it at all. I MUCH prefer the original version. But that's just me. Maybe I'm just a purist when it comes to The Odd Çouple. <shrug>

What a small world. I played 'Olive' in a community theatre's production of The (Female) Odd Couple in the late 80ies. Such a fun part. I also played Gwendolyn Pigeon in the male version, twice. I honestly believe the male version is funnier. Both are great but the male verion is a classic. FANTASTIC lines. Neil Simon at his best.

Well I guess it is somewhat of a small world. I played Jesus in my community theatre's production of it. I must say "Jesus" is my top favorite character I enjoyed playing. My friend from high school played Manolo and we stole the show...especially with our ingenious blocking we did ourselves.
What we did (to those who remember the part) was when Manolo was saying how Castillian spanish is different from english:

Manolo: You see, Castillian spanish you pronounce differnet than english. Barselona ees Barthelona. San Jo-say is San Ho-say. Very Very good vitamins ees Berry Berry good Bitamins...So-they haf berry berry good bitiamins in San Ho-say but berry berry bad bodka martinis in Barthelona...I do good Hay-zoos?

Jesus: Berry berry nith.
At that point we did our usual over-the-top laugh, then at the same time we slapped our knees and crossed our legs in perfect unison. It brought the house down.

Sorry if I ranted...I just loved that part.

Oh my gosh!I was in The Odd Couple(Female Version) my freshman year of high school.I played Mickey the Cop.It was such a great show!Our cast was hilarious.I honestly love this version much more than the male version.In fact,the same time we did the female version we did the male version.But our cast for the male version was just not that great.The only really good ones were the two playing Oscar and Felix.Wow,everyone I've ever mentioned the female version to has never heard of it!Glad others have.This is a great script!

I saw it on Broadway in the late 80s Rita Moreno and Sally Struthers...it was amazing

The thing is, the Odd Couple aren't meant to be cranky. They just end up getting on each other's nerves after 3 weeks.

Hahaha, how bizarre. I was in the female version of "The Odd Couple" two years back at my HS. I was Manolo.

Awesome to meet a fellow Costazuela!

And honestly, I like the both plays (I prefer the male) but I think the film is flat.

oh wow, i feel stupid. i never realized so many people had responded to my post.

nice to see everyone else enojoyed working in the show as much as i did.

i was just cast in neil simon's Plaza Suite as jesse kiplinger. haha, most of the lead roles in this show were in odd couple, so every now and then durring rehealsal we'll bust into odd couple lines and annoy new cast and crew members.

I saw a female version of THE ODD COUPLE on Broadway several years ago with Rita Moreno as Olive (Oscar) and Sally Struthers as Felicia (Felix). Moreno was fabulous. Sally Struthers was fat.

i have auditions for the female oddcouple at my highschool in two weeks, our high school theatre program is alsmot all females, so its hard to find stuff to fit, but this is perfect, can't wait!!!

i was just cast as sylvie!!! the director wants me to be bratty and sarcastic. how is she usually pllayed?? ive never seen it. do i look like sylvie? im 5'9 thin and blonde? lol lemme know im confused right now

Poor Sally, the night a friend attended that show, a woman seated near the stage was heard to say rather loudly when only Sally and Rita were on," Boy, did she get fat!" Sally heard the remark and shot the woman a glance that could kill.

Randomness: I just got cast as the understudy for the minor female parts in my high school! Yipee!

Anyway, the script looks very good. Appearently it was updated a bit.

I feel kinda special...My character is the only one who hasn't been mentioned. We're doing the female version at my high school and I get to play Florence!! My older sister is also in the play and she is playing Renee. It's so weird seeing all these posts of people who have starred in the play!

I was Olive in a little duet acting thing at my school last year. It was GREAT! My friend and I did the "linguini scene," as we all came to know it by. I've seen the male version, never the female version, just that scene. The female version was being done at our local theatre, but I thought that both versions are great.

That would be great if they did the female version on film!

I recently saw both versions at my college and I definitely liked the female version better. Maybe it was just that the chemistry between the women was better, or that I identified with a bunch of women more than a group of men, or that it was better acted. It was very similar to the male version but the humor was better and I liked the characters more, even though they're the same. Also, the Spanish brothers did a lot more than the Pidgeon sisters, who just sat and giggled and cried.

I'm in the play right now as Manolo, for city theater. To be honest with you, I prefer Jack Lemmon's Felix to Nancy's (the woman playing Florence in the production) Florence, because Lemmon acts the role in a way that doesn't drive you crazy. For some reason, I don't know why Nancy reads Florence so irate...I guess it really depends on the actor/actress on which one you like more.
