Just started reading the book by Joe Kane focusing on the movie's development and legacy and came across a mention that Romero had originally considered three reasons why the dead were rising. But the book only mentions the Venus probe theory. Does anyone know what the other two were?

1. Radiation from the satellite.
2. God made it happen to punish us (evidenced in the "There's No More Room in Hell" tagline from Dawn).
3. Some kind of virus infected the corpses.
Pretty sure those were the three different theories as to the reasoning behind the reanimation.

Radiation from the satellite seems to be the most dominant theory with no evidence to suggest it was anything else.
