Which version do you recommend seeing? Which score is better?

I've only seen the American version retitled "The Conqueror Worm," which adds Price's narration of the Poe poem to the beginning and end. Paul Ferris' original score was also replaced with a different score by Kendall Schmidt, although it's said to be similar.

Do you recommend I see the original UK version? Is the original score by Ferris superior to Schmidt's version? I appreciate any input.

I downloaded this one from YouTube (saving it for Halloween). I'm not sure which version it is, but maybe it can help you.

Thanks. It looks like the original UK version since I didn't notice any quote from Poe's poem by Price at the beginning.

I've seen the USA version a few times and was just wondering if the UK version is considered superior, especially since it features Paul Ferris' original score.

The title comes up as Witchfinder General too, so it's probably the UK version. I haven't seen either version, but I'm glad that when Halloween comes around, I'll be watching the original UK version.

I'm watching it tonight. I never viewed it as a horror flick; more like a Western transplanted to mid-1600's England featuring Matthew Hopkins' infamous exploits. However, with the presence of Price and the ambiance of a 60's Hammer or AIP film, I can see why some people would consider it horror.

I'm only saving it for Halloween because I saw it on a few lists of underrated horror movies.

It's considered a cult movie, perhaps due to Price's serious take on the title character (less hammy than his other 60's flicks) and the promising writer/director's sudden death not long after the release of the film, Michael Reeves, who was only 25 when he passed away.
