Matthew Hopkins was portrayed as being the bad guy all through this film but he was actually a gentleman, who was doing the lords work. Which those women would have murdered innocent people with their witchcraft if Mr Hopkins didn't take the law into his own hands and kill them first.
A true English hero portrayed as the bad guy.
Even though you're probably joking, it is interesting to think of it from their perspective. I wonder if some witch hunters actually believed in what they were doing and had good intentions (just executed them the wrong way). Or if they were all just evil men who hid behind religion and a guise of purity to fulfill their wicked desires. I think Matthew Hopkins fit in the latter category myself.
shareThe OP obviously has his tongue firmly placed in his cheek. There were lots of superstitious people who believed in the concept of witchcraft at the time, but others would simply use it as an excuse to behave sadistically towards others.
