Is this the short version?

I was told that the original 1967 Czech version was over three hours long. Any more info?

The 180 minute running time given by Variety looks suspiciously rounded-up to me, and every other source I have says it's 162 minutes.

That said, if the 158-minute running time of the Second Run DVD is adjusted to take account of PAL speedup, it comes out at 165 minutes, so it appears to be slightly longer than the standard theatrical version - but I haven't been lucky enough to see it on the big screen, so I can't tell you what's different about it.

The Second Run DVD is slightly edited. They removed a scene that wouldn't get past the animal cruelty censors in the UK.

Can you be nice to fill me in the details of such cut in the film? I just purchased the Second Run dvd box set, and 'The Valley Of The Bees' seems to me complete with some scenes displaying animal cruelty.

I don't enjoy watching that, but just as in 'Andrei Rublev' it also includes animal cruelty scenes.
