Crazy movie! Never seen one quite like it.

It's like the lost Love Boat episode of your wildest dreams. It may be played straight, but this is still one of the wackiest lost world movies I've seen. The cast is probably far better than this type of movie deserves. Eric Porter and Hildegard Knef add some honest maturity, with boozebag Tony Beckley (making alcoholism seen like a lot of fun) and cocktail-dress-wearing Suzanna Leigh supplying the camp. The actual continent itself may just appear as a miniature or as recycled One Million Years B.C. location footage, but there's enough shenanigans going on out to sea to keep us busy. The carnivorous seaweed, the sea of lost ships, crustacean horrors, and lost tribe of Spaniards presided over by a disfigured Klansman are great stuff. Who could do without Dana Gillespie as the Russ Meyer-worthy pilgrim clad in a low-necked tunic that should come with a preemptive scarlet letter? I probably shouldn't admit that I enjoy watching the annoying fancy boy of a tyrant get knifed dead center in the back.

I forgot all about Leigh as soon as Dana Gillespie appeared. Zowie!

Why? Both Leigh and Dana are highlights, and not just for teen males.
