Tony Beckley (Played Harry)

It's interesting to see English character actor Tony Beckley in this, a film whose distinguishing feature is horrifying, ravenous vegetation in the form of carnivorous seaweed. Beckley, perhaps best-known for playing "Camp Freddy" in the original (1969) version of The Italian Job, is also well-known to Doctor Who (original incarnation) fans for playing Harrison Chase in the serial "The Seeds of Doom," which came out in 1976.

Chase is a wealthy botany lover, and when a carnivorous, ambulant, malevolent plant from outer space, the Krynoid, is discovered in seed form in Antarctica, he dispatches henchmen to retrieve one of these "seeds of doom." Sure enough, a Krynoid sprouts at his English country manor and begins to grow, much to vegetable-matter lover Chase's delight even as the Krynoid began to threaten the entire world. I have to wonder about how much of The Lost Continent Beckley was recalling during the making of "The Seeds of Doom."
