The guard died for nothing

Good flick, but the whole movie is intrigue, plotting, tears, more plotting, dungeons, threats of war, etc. etc. etc., then it all comes to nothing and it's cheerio, Eleanor, see you at Easter! Right?

...except for the guard of the dungeon, who is quite dead. No Easter for him, for ever and ever.

Probably no pension for the poor sod's widow, if he had one, either.

He knew the job was dangerous when he took it.

Historically, these five people were constantly leading armed insurrections against each other.

If only one person died from this particular kerfuffle, that would actually have been a historically low body count.

Yeah! Interesting that at no time did the principals speak about what they might want to do to help England; it was all about what they had to do to get power or hang on to it.

jayz755 - Yes, that is right. It is both a sign of the times and an indication of what little value the royalty set upon the lives of their inferiors.

Eleanor summed it up best: "Of course he has a knife, he always has a knife, we all have knives! It's 1183 and we're barbarians!"
