Based on Raymond Chandler's book ``Farewell, My Lovely.''

Does anybody disagree? And yet Chandler isn't mentioned in the writing credits of this hokey homage.

I was just thinking about Raymond Chandler today after watching Murder my sweet.

Robert Parker (Spenser for hire) writing is similar to Chandlers. Chandler has a touch of "The Thin Man " wit out it as well.

Movie was based on book titled "Lady In Cement" by Marvin H. Albert...
The screen play was written by the author...

And Albert stole the plot of "Lady In Cement" from Raymond Chandler's Farewell, My Lovely. Compare and contrast.

I noticed that. I see it as a modern variation on the theme. Both stories have a hulking brute hiring the hero to find a missing girlfriend. The difference is, in this one, the hulk KNOWS the girl set him up, and, despite himself, the guy getsd to be friends with the hero as the story goes on. That's one of the reasons I liked LADY IN CEMENT more than TONY ROME-- it's nowhere hnear as downbeat or depressing. And Dan Blocker makes for a very unlikely "good guy".

"Stay loose."
"What-- AGAIN?"

"Did you mean what you said about trading me to that guy?"
"The way you're hitting this season? NO WAY!"

The babe watched the first five minutes and said 'Farewell my Lovely' and Frankie refers to the big bloke as Moose about 2/3 in.

Does anybody have a copy of Albert's novel?

It must be rather rare, as used copies go for $50+ on ebay and alibris.

And as a side point, they actually credit "Anthony Rome" as the author. Interesting that Albert used the name of the character as his pseudonym.

I have the novel. What would you like to know?
