I've been following Japanese cinema for more than 20 years, and I'd never heard of Etsushi Takahashi before. But having recently seen "Kill!" on DVD, I thought that his chracter and his performance are truly inspired.
Takahashi's over-enthusiastic oaf makes a good foil for Tatsuya Nakadai's thoughtful but reserved vagrant.
If you like samurai films, "Kill!" is worth checking out.
Is it of say Samurai Rebellion or Sanjuro? I'm definatly going to check it out, but I'd like to know what I am in for.

shareFollowing along five years later, I totally agree that Takahashi was wonderful in this film! Actually, the movie would be a lot less fun without him. I had seen him in just one other movie, and didn't remember his character, but in Kill! he was amazing and, I expect, will be memorable for some time to come.
