Time setting confusing in two ways

If Destroy all Monsters is set in the continuity in the order of the films' release dates, it does not explain how King Ghidorah revives. If it were set in 1999 (after all the events of the original films), it does not explain how Minya (Godzilla's son) is not grown-up.

This was set after all the events of the original films. Minilla's form in this film could be how fully grown adults of his species appear or being in that egg for so long might have stunted his growth for all we know. He looked older than his first appearance in Son of Godzilla in any case.

Thanks, good point.

And this film takes place in 1999, whereas all the films that follow appear to take place in the 60s and 70s, so Ghidorah's appearance in Godzilla vs. Gigan, actually takes place before this film.

reply

Yep, I've often had that thought as well.

Plus this film just feels fitting as a 'conclusion' to the Showa era. So many monsters together in one extravaganza...plus Ghidorah is kinda the 'Big Bad' of the franchise in a lot of ways, the villain the other monsters were always having to team up against to defeat.

Him finally being killed for good in this film just makes a lot of sense.

Its not confusing. Its a known fact that a baby of the Godzilla species takes over 50 years to grow into adulthood. This movie took place almost 40 years after Minya was born. Now if the movie took place in 2010 or later, then yes, it would be confusing if he hasn't grown into adulthood yet

That is not true at all. You either made that up or heard it from someone who made it up.

There is no "Godzilla species." Godzilla is a one-of-a-kind monster created by atomic bomb tests. There is a species that was transformed into Godzilla (Toho claims all Godzillas were once Godzillasaurus before the bomb. Take that for what you will), but there is no such thing as a "lifespan and stages of Godzilla").
