When I saw Snake People on Showcase earlier today I noticed many similarities to The Wicker Man with Edward Woodward and Christopher Lee. That film was at least 2 years after Snake People was released.

Human sacrifice taking place on an island is an element of both movies. And of course with Boris Karloff in this one, both films have a horror icon heavily featured.
