Now available in region 2. When in region 1 ???

Being an avid Vanessa Redgrave fan I think her performance in Isadora is her best ever... I just can't wait to own Isadora on DVD (region 1)! Does anybody know anything about its release?

Doesn't look promising which is a shame. I saw the original "Road Show" version upon it's first release. It was chopped up into Loves of Isadore soon after. I finally found the 188 minute original on VHS on Ebay. I hope that if the DVD ever does comes out it will be this version.

It's months after your post but I want to say that I agree with you 1000% ! I too saw the Road Show version in Hollywood -- in a huge theatre on Hollywood Blvd (where they now do the Jimmy Kimmel tv show I believe). There wasn't much of an audience. The original version is fabulous! I saw it a few weeks later, cut to "Loves of Isadora," and was so disappointed.
Here's hoping that eventually that a restored original Road Show version comes out on dvd-- (producers, are you reading??!!)-- perhaps with the participation on a commentary track of the larger-than-life star herself. Vanessa Redgrave is truly perfect in this role and her insights after these years would be valuable.
Fingers remain crossed!!

For those of us fortunate enough to see the original release road show version, it was stunning. Remember? overture, the lights dim slowly, the curtain opens to reveal a huge screen. That's how a movie is supposed to be seen and this one is no exception. Redgrave's portrayal was astonishing, I think she actually became Duncan, really.

I agree wholeheartedly. My VHS copy is titled Isadora, so I'm wondering if it's the longer version or not (could time it if I stll had VHS player...LOL).

Seriously though, what is up with so many companies NOT releasing or allowing release of important films like this on DVD? I've seen with some movies where the first DVD has little commentary, etc., and later a "special edition" is also released with extra content. Why not Isadora?

BTW, I don't care what region the DVD is in--it's easily stripped of region encoding. I have collected a number of DVD's in other formats and stripped away the encoding for Spain, Australia, Russia, or whatever. When I looked this up today I was hoping somewhere in the world someone had it on DVD.

Totally agree with all the above comments..

I was not fortunate enough to see the roadshow version because here in the midwest between Chicago and Milwaukee, ISADORA did not play at all - only the shorter LOVES OF ISADORA.

None the less, I loved the movie and especially the great peformance of Vanessa Redgrave. What a shame so few movie fans remember or even know about this film.. It was only years later when i saw the film on tape that I saw a longer version.

I have never seen the complete roadshow version - the only one released in the USA was reeditted by the director to about 160 minutes. was the roadshow version released on tape?

I wish there was some way to get a dvd release - special edition preferably..

IMDB lists the production comapany/owners of Isadora as Hakim. I wonder if this might be the stumbling block. If it is a smaller company which owns it, then it is possible a DVD will pass under the radar. If owned by a bigger company then maybe not. I don't know - just a thought. Maybe complete rubbish?
I only saw the film once and that would be about 30 years ago on BBC TV. Hopefully one day...

I saw the full version in Boston when it was released initially. It was a great movie. Unfortunatelly, Redgrave is apparently taken for granted these days, and her name is not enough of a draw, nor is Duncan's.

Can anyone with a VHS copy please post the name of the singer credited with "Bye-Bye Blackbird"?

I saw the movie there, too. I was astounded by Redgrave's performance, although I shouldn't have been. She is always superb. In fact, I remember the film being over and I was still glued to my seat, I loved it so much. But that performance remains one of the greatest things I've ever seen. I want this on a full roadshow-style DVD so badly. Maybe Criterion?

I couldn't agree more! I would absolutely love to have this wonderful movie on DVD - my poor VHS copy is nearly worn out!

Do it with passion.

Perhaps because Vanessa is too controversial. We know why...

Don't know if we'll ever see the roadshow version, but at the very least we should get the Z Channel restored version on DVD!
