Submarine Sailor Trivia

I am a long-retired US submarine sailor, and sat through this movie for the first time.

Early in the movie, Rock Hudson reports to the sub, supposedly in Holy Loch (from where US SSBNs used to forward reply, but at which there was no pier as shown in the movie) walking down a pier with an obvious US submarine tender, looking like a Fulton-class tender, in the background.

An ex-USS Nereus (AS-17) sailor reports that this was in fact filmed at the US Navy submarine base at Ballast Point, San Diego (I thought it looked familiar - I served there in the early 80s), with the Nereus in the background.
