STUPIDEST MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN!

HELL IN THE PACIFIC. (SUMMARY)

Japenese and american pilot trapped on remote island. Japenese pilot captiors american. american escapes. captures japanese then lets loose. they build raft. sail to island. find abandoned american camp. japanese reads life magazine. gets pissed off. american gets pissed off. bomb blows them up. THE END.

there, in 5 seconds that is the movie.

I only finished watching the movie because usually there is something in the end that makes the body of the story come together and make sense. This movie is the boggest waste of time. I dont know what was going through the directors head when he made this but im sure one of his close relatives/friends had recently died or something.

The point of this film was to show that even through language barrier, culture clash, and ultimately violent warfare, humanity, dignity, respect and friendship can overcome all of these things.

Sorry it wasn't to your liking, I guess it required too much thought.

Someone using the term "Stupidest" should really learn how to use commas and periods. Maybe proof read a little too.

reply

Im to lazy to proof read lol. That wasnt my point though. My point is that they took a great subject, friendship over comes war, and made a horrible movie. They started out great but at the end they realized just how steep the downhill road they were on was. So in the end they just made a random bomb blow them up. That makes no sence. Im sorry but this is a great subject, crappy movie. Thats that.

reply

In case you haven't noticed, life is randomness incarnate. You're happy one day, and dead the next. In my opinion, the point of the film was to show that great and unexpected friendships can blossom in the most unlikely, and horrid of places. The sudden and violent end was just another random and unconnected event in the same reality we all have to share. Others might see the explosion as the symbol of the equally violent end of their friendship, destroyed by the same external forces as the shell that ended both of them.

peace.

reply

Hey, dieing 4life, it's "too lazy" not "to lazy", and "no sense" not "no sence." Wow, you're batting a thousand here, buddy.
Anyway, this film was great and i loved the idea of these two men overcoming their hate for each other and becoming friends. I guess unbelievable circumstances like being marooned on a deserted island will have folks put all differences aside and work together. Then become friends. Great message, great movie.

The whole theme is actually a bit thin. And the theme is wearing thin. It is a true story of nothing. No cultural wonderfulness, no friendship inducing tears. It is a sorry excuse of a theme well and truly done to death. The most likely scenario was that the Japanese soldier would have killed him. eaten him. the end.
To use such a story as friendship overcomes all is just sad. It doesn't prove anything except under *beep* circumstances who you chose to be friends with gets relegated to who is available for friendship. It doesn't show the humans spirit rising above cultural hatreds or political agendas. Because that has never been true. It shows people being people. Adjusting to the circumstances they are in and doing the best iwth what they have. Because we are humans attachments happen. Thats it. And the ending being some sort of post-modern thought of randomness and 'reality' giving meaning is just to pathetic and meaningless in itself. I guess that was what they were going for. But we don't need to appreciate it. Nor applaud them for it. No one on this earth is not aware of the savagery of real life. If they are not they are either blind or on some great drugs. And believing that others don't see this reality is so condescending it is beyond funny. Everyone knows. Most just chose to live in hope that humanity could stop acting like *beep* But we can't and we wont. And this movie does nothing to help. It instead offers a new utopian ideal that will in the end find its resting place in the graveyard of grand ideals. The truth of it was the bomb not just blowing up them but the whole notion of a world that could live in peace. Because it actually showed that the only chance people have for friendship which did not include a peaceful existence, was absolute isolation and constant threat of death from an outside source, in this case nature. So yeah if that is the lesson then wooop. Great. But any attempt to add some deep meaningful we will overcome war one day and live in a utopian world of love and compassion is just so last century. Surely we can give that one away now and start facing the truth about ourselves.

Lets not forget Dying, not dieing. Great movie with an ethical undercurrent. I guess it takes some intelligence to get it.

o in the end they just made a random bomb blow them up. That makes no sence. Im sorry but this is a great subject, crappy movie. Thats that.

Now, I know this was almost ten years ago.
But it's funny that the reason why this poster thinks the movie sucks is actually because the studio changed the ending.

!

From the description, it sounded like a wartime Enemy Mine type movie, but the ending seems ludicrous. Thanks for the synopsis. I won't watch it after all.

reply

Actually it's an excellent film, and I think was probably the inspiration for Enemy Mine. It's a story about two people in an extreme situation, and interesting as such. Do watch it - unless you're just looking for a bang-bang shootem-up, of course. The ending is odd, and was tacked on by the studio, as you'll see from many posts here, but don't let that put you off.

reply

Thank you, Suzume-san. I actually watched the last 10 minutes of it out of curiosity and found it pretty good. I may indeed watch it.

reply

if a film is stupid and pointless then why watch it to the very end? For some pointless miracle "that makes the body of the story come together and make sense"?
the whole point of the film is that war is pointless, the two men were fighting their own little microcosm WW2 on the island. i thought the director made that blantantly clear.
As for the abrupt ending, that was not the directors fault, the studio's muscled in and changed it to suit the box office.

"As an un-muddied lake sir. As clear as an azure sky in deepest summer. You can rely on me sir"

reply

I have to agree even though the acting scenery and storyline was great this is a great example of an ending completely ruining a movie Lord of the Rings and The Matrix take note.

reply

Read my previous posting. The ending was anything but pointless.

peace.

In order to be taken seriously, the first obligation of any critic is to make sure that there is nothing in his criticism that can itself be criticized. Because so little information comes across here in just a few sentences, the only way to judge how capable a critic is in this setting, is by his spelling, grammer and sentence structure. Clearly dieing_4life is a functional illiterate and has not only no right to have an opinion on anything, but he should probably be denied free speech, pending an examination by his high school principal. He even spells his own name wrong. So if a person does violence to his own language, or worse yet (as he admits) he is too lazy to get it right, how anyone take him seriously? Clearly "Hell in the Pacific" is far above his understanding and he should stick to re-runs of "Sesame Street."

reply

"...how anyone take him..."

petemetzger,

I will cut you by your own sword: There is a problem with this phrase. "..., how IS anyone TO take him..." or "...how CAN anyone take him..." or "...how COULD anyone take him..." In capitals are words you missed...

Although your reasoning, language, and posting is a 1000 times better than his...
