What Pete said made a huge, permanant improvement in me 25 years ago

In another thread, lots of people said my deep interpretation of Head was correct and wonderful (the thread about the theme of free will). But one guy belittled me, and I think my reply was worth posting as a new entry here.

> Faye didn't come up with that interpretation. If you've ever read a book about the Monkees or Head it's discussed in detail.

Yes, but IT DOESN'T MATTER if we're in the box.

Let me explain that response, because its important.

Another way of stating Pete's revelation would be "Something that makes no difference IS no difference."

That would have saved them if they had listened to Peter. It meant that as long as the four guys continue experiencing the eternal "right now" as it occurs and occurs instead of ignoring immediate experience so they can figure out if they're free, then IT DOESN'T MATTER if those fun experiences are written down in a script somewhere. The only thing that matters is the experience itself. That realization has made my life SO much happier. For example...

25 years ago, I had never read any of those Monkees books when I realized the film's profound meaning about free will. So IT DOESN'T MATTER if I was the first one or even the only one to interpret the film like I did. It doesn't even matter if everybody else in the world had figured out Head and I was the last one to. That's because I did the exact same thing and felt the exact same feelings I would have if I HAD been the first person to figure it out. All that matters to me is my experience of watching this amazing film and pondering it for days.

I hope that makes sense, because the generalization of "it doesn't matter if we're in the box" has made a huge difference for me in how I see things. 25 years ago, Pete made me a better person in real life.

The best example is this comment. Before I saw Head, I would have gotten angry and defensive when you dismissively said that I wasn't the first one to come up with my interpretation. But thanks to Pete, I realized that it doesn't matter who thought of it first.

Many, many times I've found myself in distressful, irritating, or confusing situations and said to myself what Pete said. Each time, it gave me a different, better perspective. I feel more relaxed and at peace, instead of needing to verbally battle everybody that disagrees with me.

I only hope you understand WHY your comment doesn't matter to me, and that it doesn't matter specifically because of something Peter Tork said in Head. I always wanted to thank him for it, but I suppose I never will. :-(

One more thing: I know that all of the above sounds silly to you. Go ahead and say so, because (all together now) that doesn't matter. I literally don't care if people think it's silly, because I'm happy. And I'm not just saying that. All that matters is that I found great meaning in a goofy(?) movie about the Monkees.

I really wish I could thank Pete.

Yup, this movie is very underrated and awfully special once you understand its meaning.

When theres no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.
