MGM DVD needed!

I would love to see MGM release all the AIP-TV versions of the Gamera films as part of their Midnight Movies DVD collection. I would love to see crisp master versions as opposed to the flea bitten, off-colour versions available from Alpha, Retromedia, and the like!

that would rock! But how many Gamera movies are they?

Trust me,

There are a total of twelve Gamera films.

Next month Mill Creek is releasing the first eight on two Blu-rays. They are the Japanese versions, not the American ones, with subtitles, but it's better than nothing.

In addition to those classic Showa Gamera movies, there were three in the late '90s, available in an inexpensive Blu-ray package as the Gamera Trilogy.

Finally there was Gamera the Brave this century. It's available by itself.

PS Those 1990s Gamera reboots are absolute garbage. Showa Gamera 4Ever!

Oh, but the "flea bitten, off-color" versions from Alpha are the best! The grainy, faded 16mm prints of these kaiju classics are exactly how us baby boomers saw and recall them. I just rewatched Alpha's DVD of Destroy All Planets, and it's the best possible print I could imagine. All you anal retentive fanboys are greedy pigs for wanting spanking-new high-def copies of your favorite kaiju classics - and knowing your type, I bet you'd also want to ditch the original dubbed US audio track for - gulp - subtitles!!! Nope, the prints that are out there are just perfect. Now go and play with yourself while dreaming of Blu-Ray!!!
