its funny the difference of fannys relationships.

Her relationship with nick was like parent/ child! Nicks "You are woman i am man I don;t want that kind of Help'" attitude kind of bugged me! what got me about that is that he married a wealthy woman after fanny! and to think she only feel in love with those stupid tooth brushes! I was glad she was the one who walked out at the end of the second movie!

and Her relationship with billy was more Child/child.

when billy said I am man you are woman I'm the boss and you need me she was like yeah right! just shut the heck up! I'm a star i don't need you!" I loved her with billy.

I wonder if she said Yes or no no or yes before the day after tomorrow! when billy came to her at the end of the movie!

who was the better match for her? I say Billy. with billy she could be her bossy lovable self! Nick i think was selfish.

I haven't actually seen Funny Lady yet but I agree w/your assessment of her w/Nick. He might have loved her but he wanted to be the powerful one. I believe that his wed someone wealthy the second time around b/c the man I believe was after money. The movie actually made him a "better" guy than he was in the real story. I read that the real Nick married Fanny for her money and used a lot of it on gambling.

As a side, I believe that Nick was wrong for her as she got famous but in the beginning before all the problems I liked how they protrayed their love. I wish Nick hadn't been so set on being proud all the time.
