Showing on TCM, May 28, 2008

I've never seen this rarely shon film and have been wanting to for years because of the year of its release and the cast. I've read it's not that good, but I'm looking forward to finally seeing it. Turner Classic Movies will be showing it on May 28, 2008 at 6 pm Eastern.

I've seen "Duffy" 10 times and it is a great film. Great performances, very cool plot and plot twists, a very end-of-the-sixties vibe. I'm sorry that you've read that it's not good. That's a shame. It has the kind of cool that Oceans 11 and other heist films strive for. Enjoy it on TCM. I'm sure their print will be excellent.

TCM is really good about picture quality. And the more Britflicks, the better... wonder if we could get them to show St. Trinian's...?

Oh hell yes! I've been looking for St. Trinian's on DVD for a while.

i recorded it from earlier today and watched it tonight, being a james coburn (and donald cammell) fan i enjoyed. fun movie. beautifully shot locations and loved the dated dialogue and clothing. good times.

The recording for "Duffy" was perfect. How about we start an emailing campaign to TCM to get St. Trinian's again? There are at least two or three of them... not including the new one.

Whaddya think?

Well, I thought "Duffy" was OK, but not great. I've never read a good review of it, but I'd hoped I'd like it better. Coburn and York really looked a little too rough, I thought. York was way too skinny. The robbery wasn't one of the screen's most compelling and it seemed as if the script was half-baked. There was no real wit to it and I'm not sure what the attitude was. Still, it was better than most movies today. The transfer on TCM was very good and I made myself a DVD+R copy of it. Glad I finally saw it, but was hoping it would be better. Now I'd like to see another ork movie on TCM, "Sands of the Kalahari."

Susanna York looked just about right to me. And the wit and attitude was typical English class envy.
