Red eyes or no red eyes?

In the first few scenes of Dracula's attacks his eyes are red/bloodshot, supposedly to denote the hypnotic power he is wielding. But then later he approaches one of the girls and his eyes are not read, yet she is interested. A goof/mistake?

It is my understanding that Christopher Lee suggested that Dracula not have bloodshot eyes in that scene to make him appear more human. Also, he hated wearing the red contact lenses, as they irritated his eyes and limited his vision.
