what is SETTING of story (not filming location)?

i missed the beginning of movie. i know that the training camp was *filmed* in utah - but in the story plot, where is the setting for the training camp & bar fight? were those lumberjacks canadians or americans in the story plot? i looked it up online & the actual devil's brigade in ww2 took place in helena montana...is that the setting of the training camp in the film?

The Training camp in the film is indeed in Helena Montana (although the film was shot in Utah and Italy) you see the sign "Fort William Henry Harrison" when Holden first enters the Camp. That was the name of the closed down Army base in Helena where the unit trained at.
