Leon Greene voice dubbed. Why?

Does anyone know why Leon Greene had his voice dubbed for this film? If you've seen him in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum", he has a great voice.

He used to sing for the Sadler's Wells Opera Company, so his own voice would have been perfectly acceptable for the part.

they Intended Rex's voice to be mid atlantic they thought Leon Greene 's vocals were the right sound . Poor Leon Greene was also dubbed in Flash Gordon as well.

According to Patrick Allen (quoted in Wayne Kinsey's Hammer: The Elstree Years), Greene's singing voice was precisely the problem. Hammer felt he "sang" his lines.
