Devil's Bride??

Why have they changed The Devil Rides Out, why change the original title?

IMDB have gone completely gaga over the last couple of weeks with the way they change their titles. This is not the only example. This is driving me completely bonkers as they often choose secondary or even edited releases as the primary titles of movies which doesn't make the slightest bit of sense. I really hope they revert back soon.

reply

Indeed, I see that Der Untergang became Downfall now. I mean, are they translated the foreign language film's titles? Inappropriate to say the least.

When it was shown in the USA after being released the title was changed from The Devil's Ride Out to The Devil's Bride. Probably they estimated more money would come in from the latter titil.

reply

Films should be called by their original title, not by how they are called in the US. That's ridiculous.

The reason the US changed the title was because 'Rides Out' sounded too much like a cowboy/Lone Ranger film. Never mind that 'Bride' leaves out Simon's importance in the plot as chief victim.

reply

Why? It's a US site, affiliated with Amazon.com. I don't see the problem, though both titles are stupid. "The Devil Rides Out" makes it sound like he's leaving. "The Devil's Bride" makes even less sense.

reply

Actually really do think the devil rides out sounds a bit too querky -- ever hear of the devil riding out on anything? The devils bride on the other hand tells me it is some devil worship film which is why I am watching it now on TCM. Also because it has one of my fav actors in it too - Charles Gray. So far so good.

I had never heard of Gray but those icy blue eyes of his totally sold me that he was playing an evil occult mesmerist

reply

I heard of him from the British TV series Sherlock Holmes. He played Sherlock's brother Mycroft.

reply

Interesting; which Holmes TV show was that? The one with Jeremy Brett?

Why can't you wretched prey creatures understand that the Universe doesn't owe you anything!?

reply

Yes. I have the whole series on DVD. According to IMDB, he was only in a few episodes.

reply

Most people around these parts primarily know Charles Grey from his stints as
Blofeld in the Bond flick DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER, or as the criminologist in
the ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW.

Pffft, my suspension of disbelief has higher standards than that.

Originally, it wasn't. It was a Welsh site that was bought out by Amazon after 12 years in existence.

Also, "The Devil Rides Out" is the more famous title of this film, in addition to being the original one.

The Devil Rides Out is the original british title only americans know it as Devil's Bride.

reply

..because the american market is a bit stooopid..........a catchier title with less to think about was better.thats why harry potter`s first film was chenged to "the sorcerers stone"in the us...philosopher was a word 95% of the us had never heard of.

reply

BAHAHAHA! best

sorcerers stone ruins the title

its about the philosopher stone and the elixir of life

real alchemist *beep* yo :P

I didn't like the original title too much either even though the book was called 'The Devil Rides Out.' I think 'Devil's Baptism' would have been alright. 'Devil's Baptism' is from a quote by Duc de Richleau during the course of the film. I'm a fan of a title being quoted somewhere in the dialogue of a film.

I think a good title is part of what makes a movie appealing to me, because if a title sounds boring I will be less likely to watch the film. The Devil Rides Out really captures my interest and makes me want to know more about the film while The Devil's Bride makes it sound like just another horror movie. I prefer the original title much more.
